TheYoungAuthors.org is a space designed by teachers, for teachers, to help engage, teach and motivate their students. We use literature, art and music to develop critical thinking, stimulate imagination and foster creativity. Here, learning standards are not merely boxes to be checked, they are the language woven into every lesson.

"The Young Authors is a site dedicated to help students push aside writing inhibitions and encourage them to work and laugh together. If, through our efforts, we can foster a love of writing...we all win."
~ Alan St. Jean ~

There's a movie theater in here! Each book in this learning series is featured as a 'Now Playing' attraction at a beautiful theater. Simply click on the 'movie' you want to watch, the Author does the rest. Craft and Structure. Author's Purpose. Poetry. Problems. Solutions. It's all there and much more based on each particular lesson. Now why does the Author refer to the students in Kindergarten through second grade as TaterTots? Well, he has a unique sense of humor. It's his way of recognizing, in his own endearing way, children of the different age groups he visits in schools. He calls it Potato Theory 101. Although designed for students in grades K-2, these fun, interactive videos provide an excellent jumping-off point for higher-grade teachers to reinforce lessons to their students as well. (Includes six Author Visit / Movie Theater experiences.)
For the Tater Tots: Grades K-2

For the French Fries: Grades 3-6
Bigger words, more advanced concepts and more exciting adventures. The students are growing and we're right there with them. Of course we cover Conflict and Resolution as well as Author's Purpose. But now, other writing considerations emerge. Conventions of Writing, Poetic License, Emotion, Allusion are explored as we learn to use writing tools wisely as well as responsibly. There's a whole world of learning in here. No, more like a whole universe of learning. Not only will you find a movie theater (this one's a Drive-In) with Author lessons, you'll also discover other incredible learning activites like the The Legend of Sir Quillilot (it has an escape room), a Video Podcast of an entire book, Novel Study Units and the world famous Writing Olympics! It's a lot, and it's all available at your convenience. Although designed for students in grades 3-6, the Tater Tots are more than welcome to explore these lessons as well. (Includes six Author Visit / Movie Theater experiences.)
